Richmond is the largest urban settlement in the Tasman District located at the top of the South Island, New Zealand, only 15km south of Nelson. Its fast growing population of 15,000 is attracted by the surrounding natural beauty and vibrant feel of the town.
Richmond is the main shopping and business precinct in the Tasman District and is continuing to grow with the addition of many new retail outlets, notably K-Mart and The Warehouse and the largest Mall in the top of the south. Richmond has a comprehensive shopping area and a good choice of eateries, all with free parking and free WiFi in the CBD.
Despite continued growth, Richmond has managed to retain its family-friendly ‘small town’ feel. It is now a favourite stopping place for the thousands of tourists that visit the Tasman District and offers a great network of green spaces, cycling trails and walking tracks to enjoy.
Richmond nestled at the base of the Mount Richmond Forest Park and is a gateway to three national parks, Abel Tasman National Park, Nelson Lakes National Park and Kahurangi National Park and waterways such as Rabbit Island (Moturoa), Aniseed Valley, Waimea River and Kaiteriteri. It is the perfect central location to stay when you want to take in all of the beauty, attractions, and shopping that the Tasman region has to offer.
