Company Overview
We are a family-owned winery in Nelson, New Zealand. We first planted grapes in 1996 on our small home vineyard. The estate vineyards now comprise 26 hectares within the premium Brightwater sub-region of Nelson. In 2007 we built a new winery and took care to incorporate every possible environmentally responsible feature including solar power, and waste water treatment and recycling.
"Kaimira" means "food mill" in Maori. The name recalls the Brightwater village flour mill - a historical landmark with ties to our home vineyard.
We are passionate about the environment. Our vineyards and winery are accredited under Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand. All our wines are certified carbon neutral from the grapes in the vineyard to the wine on the shelf or table. We are in the second of three years of conversion to full organic status (Asurequality).
We produce two wine brands. KAIMIRA ESTATE wines are premium quality and styled to complement food. As well as all the classic varietals (Sauvignon Blanc, dry Riesling, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir), the KAIMIRA range includes small batch specialty wines such as lower-alcohol Riesling, Semillon, Méthode Traditionnelle and Syrah/Viognier. The personality of BRIGHTSIDE wines reflects their brand name - popular, easy-going, approachable and everyone's favourite. There is a BRIGHTSIDE Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Unoaked Chardonnay, lightly-oaked Chardonnay, Rose and Pinot Noir.
